On 25 January 2014, the Municipal Executive body gave its consent to the Urban real estate report. This strategy applies to all real estate owned by the Municipality of Amsterdam. The municipality has a vast and varied real estate portfolio. One of the key principles of the real estate strategy is that the municipality only wants to hold on to properties that will be used for municipal policy goals, such as education, sports area development, art & culture, municipal office buildings, etc. The municipality considers all other real estate, such as housing, offices, retail spaces as ‘commercial real estate’. Objects from the municipal portfolio in this last category do not support any policy goal and can thus, in principle, become eligible to be sold. After a European tender procedure, P. van den Bosch Commercial Real Estate Agents B.V. was selected to manage these sales on behalf of the Municipality of Amsterdam.
